Itinerary
Tour itineraries start and finish at Munich airport, Germany. The Bavarian city of Munich is superbly located just north of the Alps and its airport is convenient for flights from UK, European & intercontinental origins (Nth America, Asia, Oceania). Upon arrival you will be greeted by the driver to begin the adventure in your comfortable Mercedes van. The tours spends all nine nights in the heart of Germany's best ski region at Garmisch Partenkirchen. Local ski days include at Garmisch Classic & the high-altitude Zugspitze. Other activities include a walking tour through historic Partenkirchen..........
Away from Garmisch the group gets priority access for a guided tour of the stunning Neuschwanstein Castle & environs, plus a full day tour of fabulous Munich including its famous beer halls. Across the border in Austria, you will visit the Arlberg & ski St Anton, regarded by Powderhounds.com as the world’s absolute best region. And then an unforgettable 'mystery ski day' at the end of the tour that skis two famous resorts across the border from Austria to Switzerland to wrap it all up. Add in some lively après ski sessions for the perfect Austrian Alps experience.
Of course, being a private custom tour you can alter the itinerary according to your group's wishes, ski ability & aspirations; however the suggested program has been curated for one good reason - it combines all the best bits of this fabulous part of the world into a coherent & time efficient tour package.
For detailed information on the suggested 10-day program, see the Itinerary tab.
The Skiing
The tour takes in the best skiing in Germany, Austria & a quick jaunt into Switzerland. Starting in Germany right near the tour hotel, Garmisch Classic is home to wonderful pistes including World Cup standard descents. Nearby Zugspitze is the nation's highest & most snow sure, topping out at 2,720m. Getting to the top of Zugspitze is half the fun of skiing here, with incredible cable car and funicular rides a true bonus.
The “cradle of alpine skiing”, St. Anton is where it is often said that modern skiing was born. With a variety of slopes for beginners and experienced skiers alike, along with the beautiful scenery & many mountain villages, St. Anton ski resort makes for the perfect ski day. Part of a huge, interlinked area with over 300km of ski trails called Ski Arlberg, the tour guide will make sure you’re well oriented and provide recommendations for the best spots to ski, eat & drink. Fast groups may be able to visit renown villages like Lech, Stuben, & Zürs.
In Switzerland, the tour visits the slightly bizarre duty-free ski resort of Samnaun after starting (& finishing) the day in Austria's Ischgl. Ski along the 'Smugglers Route' across the border from Austria for a sneaky time in a unique part of Switzerland.
A free day in the itinerary allows for bad weather or for the group to choose another ski resort to explore.
Lodging & Meals
A 4-star hotel, the Hotel Rheinischer Hof in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, is the base for the entire tour. The hotel is within an hour drive of all ski resorts & sights visited on the tour. Staying in the same hotel for the entire trip saves alot of time & inconvenience, allowing participants to unpack just once for the trip. A superb breakfast is included in the tariff. The guide will advise on wonderful lunch locations in the ski resorts & during the various sightseeing tours (i.e. a traditional beer hall in Munich, a mountain hut at St Anton, and a brewery near Neuschwanstein Castle). Dinners can be sought at the hotel, or for a more interesting experience, in the village. The guide will make suggestions for the best options.
The guide will also direct the group to the region's best après ski location for after-ski shenanigans, including the classic St Anton venue called the Krazy Kangaruh. Another après ski highlight will be at lively Ischgl on the final afternoon of the tour.
Ski Ability & Gear
As these are private tours, all ski & snowboard abilities can be catered for; however it is best for all participants to be of a similar level of ability & experience. To make the most out of the trip, it is recommended that all skiers & snowboarders be of at least intermediate standard, plus of reasonable fitness.
Ski & snowboarding gear are not included in the tour price. You are advised to bring your own ski & snowboard gear on the trip, however it is possible to rent gear for the tour. Let the tour operator know you require rental gear so it can be included.
