The cabin for the seven nights of the tour is located in the small hamlet of Laupstad, right between the best mountains in Lofoten, some of which can be accessed directly from the cabin with skis on straight from the door. Laupstad is about 20 minutes by car from Svolvaer, the capital of Lofoten, with a multitude of restaurants, which the tour group can visit.
It is possible to reserve individual places in an open group or creating your own group of friends and organizing a private trip; maximum capacity 7 people + mountain guide. Program
The main airport in the region is Evenes, which is located between the cities of Harstad and Narvik; from there we will take the vehicles upon arrival and go to the beautiful seaside cabin, which will be your base for the week. Six full days of stunning ski touring in the region will follow. For detailed information, see the Itinerary tab.
The Skiing
Lofoten as a ski touring destination is world-renowned. Surrounded by water in every direction, it is one of the places where the saying "skiing from the summit to the sea" makes absolute sense. The mountains in Lofoten range in altitude from 700 to 1,100m above sea level, and because of the harsh climate the treeline is somewhere between 300 and 400m, which provides very easy access to the incredible alpine terrain, and also delightful tree-skiing down low if the visibility is poor up top. With such a dramatic landscape, many summits are perfect for ski touring and well worth a visit. Småtindan, Torskmannen, Geitgaljen and Trolltindan are just a few names on the extensive list of the favourite mountains.
Lodging & Meals
The program provides accommodation in a fully self-contained seaside cabin located in Laupstad right between the best mountains of Lofoten. Some are so close the group will ski directly from the cabin, whilst other days will need about 15-25 minutes by car to get there. We will be about 20 minutes by car from Svolvaer, the capital of Lofoten, with a multitude of restaurants, which the group can (and will) visit. In the cabin, bedrooms & all facilities are shared. If you want a single room, please indicate this at the time of booking. The tour organisers believe solo travellers should not have to pay more to travel so our group trips are designed for shared accommodation and do not involve a single supplement. Single travellers joining group trips are paired in twin or multi-share accommodation with someone of the same sex for the duration of the trip.
For meals, a common shop will be made and the costs divided among all participants. The tour guides will be in charge as organizers and based on their experience of many trips, to help in management of the purchase and quantities. Work will begin before departure to speed up the process upon arrival. If you have allergies or preferences, let the tour operator know before departure.
It is recommended that you bring your own energy bars, nuts… & snacks so that you can eat while doing the activities. They can be purchased upon arrival during the first day shopping expedition. You can each bring your own alcoholic beverages, or they can be purchased once in Norway, but at Norwegian prices!!
An evening trip into the main town of Svolvaer for dinner and/or beers is p[possible if the group wishes.
Ski Ability, Fitness & Gear
For this ski touring trip, an intermediate to advanced level of off-piste skiing/splitboarding and having previously done some ski touring activity (randonnee / ski touring / backcountry skiing) is required. Depending on the physical and technical level of the participants and the snow and weather conditions, the mountain guide will adapt the outings for maximum enjoyment. Do not hesitate to make a booking enquiry to jointly evaluate whether you have the appropriate level of skiing.
If you know that you prefer to go far and steep and are looking for a challenge, the advice is to bring along your group of friends and book an entire mountain cabin for yourselves. Weather and snow conditions will, of course, determine what and where can be skied. Even if you already know each other, we can still tailor the level more to your wishes and skill level.
To make the most of the tour you should at a minimum be fit enough to at least undertake a 1,100m climb in 3 to 4hr, then be able to safely descend in variable snow conditions (powder, crud, crust, ice).
For this tour, all participants will need to bring their own ski-touring & splitboarding gear, including all avalanche safety equipment.
