Arrival & Itinerary
The tour starts and finishes at Kutaisi (KUT) airport (or a Kutaisi city location) where you will be greeted by your experienced driver, in a van, minibus or several SUVs (depending on group size) and will ensure luggage is safely loaded into the cars Whilst the return transfer from/to Kutaisi is included in the tour price, anyone arriving at either Tbilisi or Batumi airport can still join a tour. A surcharge will be added for those transfers.
The adventure begins with the 5-6hr scenic drive from Kutaisi to Mestia in Svaneti. After a night of eating & drinking too much amazing food & wine in your Mestia guesthouse, your days will be all about finding great snow & terrain utilising the ski lifts at Tetnuldi & Hatsvali ski areas, ski-touring or getting around on a snowcat or helicopter. Daily transfers from the hotel to the ski resort in the morning and back to hotel after skiing are included in the price. Tetnuldi Ski Resort is 22km (40-50 min), Hatsvali Ski Resort is just 2km (10-15 min). Also transfers to ski-touring routes and pick-ups after heli-skiing and cat-skiing are also included.
For more information, see the Itinerary tab.
Skiing & Splitboarding
The mountains of Svaneti have vast areas of freeride terrain for every level of skier & snowboarder. Tetnuldi Ski Resort is main area for freeriding but in case of bad weather and low visibility, the forested Hatsvali Ski Resort can be utilised. Tetnuldi has some superb below treeline skiing for bad weather days as well, and (at least for the Powderhounds!) can provide some of the sweetest ski memories of the trip. All ski passes are included in the tour price. The ski lifts at Tetnuldi allow access to incredible alpine terrain without too much effort. The Greater Caucasus around Svaneti should have a deep snowpack by the start of February, allowing for some long routes that start in the high alpine and end deep in the valley over 1,400m vertical below, where transport will be waiting to pick you up. Days can end with a long descent to Adishi village or down to some more secret locations in the opposing valley!
Cat Skiing
For an extra tariff, when the weather is fine and the snowpack stable, cat skiing is possible in two locations. Cat-skiing is undertaken at either Mount Koruldi or from the Tetnuldi ski lifts. At Mount Koruldi descents up to 1,200m are possible, or combined with a ski tour, it is possible to head up to Chalaadi glacier and ski it. From the base of Tetnuldi ski resort, the cat takes a group up to a quiet, untracked zone with terrain between 2,260m and 3,100m, and with the possibility to do the epic descent down to Adishi village. Rates vary depending on location and whether it is a single ride or full day. For more detail on heli-skiing rates, see the Rates & Inclusions tab.
Heli Skiing
Heli-skiing can be added to any tour depending on availability & weather. Based out of Mestia, heli-skiing is undertaken throughout the region and can includes drops at places like Chalaadi Glacier or more remote peaks for a true untracked experience. Rates vary greatly and depend length of flight & size of group. For more detail on heli-skiing rates, see the Rates & Inclusions tab.
Guides
The tour is led by experienced, Georgian mountain guides, and supported by a range of highly qualified support team members. Riding will at all times be with experienced GMGA (Georgian Mountain Guide Association) and IFMGA (International Federation of Mountain Guide Association) Certified Ski/Snowboard Mountain Guides. The best lines are guaranteed!
Ski Ability & Gear
The tour is able to cater for strong intermediate to expert skiers & snowboarders. There is terrain suitable for all abilities, but this tour is all about off-piste freeride, so experience & ability in variable snow conditions is an advantage. Ideally all guests in a group will be of a similar ski/board ability/standard. Freeride skis and boards, touring gear, two-way radios, and avalanche safety equipment is not included in the tariff but may be able to be rented. Ask prior to booking! Guests should endeavour to bring all of their own ski & snowboard gear.
Lodging & Meals
Seven nights' accommodation, plus all breakfasts & dinners are included in the 8-day tour price. Guesthouse accommodation in Mestia will be used for all nights unless other arrangements have been made when customising the tour (i.e. like a night in Ushguli). Alcoholic drinks are not included in the tariff but are readily available throughout the region.
For detailed information on accommodation, food & drink, see the Lodging tab.
