Snow & Timing
Gudauri typically enjoys abundant snowfall, making it a backcountry skiing paradise. Gudauri experiences snowfall from December to the end of March, with an average annual snowfall of over 5 meters (16 feet). This consistent snowpack ensures excellent conditions for backcountry skiing throughout the season. From light, dry powder to spring corn snow, Gudauri offers a wide range of snow conditions to suit every skier’s preference.
The ideal time to plan your backcountry ski tour in Gudauri depends on your preferences and skill level. Mid-February to March often provides the best balance between abundant snowfall and milder temperatures. The sunnier days make for great backcountry adventures. As spring approaches, in late March to April you can still enjoy great skiing, especially in higher elevations, with the added bonus of longer daylight hours and that spring corn snow!
Daily Program & Meeting Point
The full day program of exploring Gudauri's best backcountry terrain starts at 0930hr with a pick up from your accommodation and ends about 8 hours later with a drop off at 1730hr. Your guide will customise the day's tour based on where the conditions are best and depending on the group's ability & wishes!

They possess an in-depth knowledge of the terrain, ensuring a safe and exhilarating adventure into Gudauri’s expansive backcountry. With countless options to explore, you’re guaranteed to have a blast while soaking in breathtaking mountain vistas. All guides on the tour are full time professionals with the highest qualifications as ski instructors & off-piste guides. All are fluent in English but there are also multilingual options including Georgian, German, Czech & French. Maximum group size per guide is 4 guests.
Ski Ability & Customising Your Tour
This tour can be fully customised to meet any of your skiing (or snowboarding) needs and match your group’s ability, however a baseline ability to ski comfortable on intermediate slopes is required. If skiing off-piste freeride powder is not your strength, but you want to learn, the guide can slowly introduce you to it, providing advice & skills development whilst showing you the best ski areas the resort has to offer. All guides are qualified instructors that can easily spend some time on technical improvement if you wish. If you are more into ski-touring away from the ski lifts, the resort has an incredible range of areas to explore, and all are well-known to the guides! Just ask and the guides will try to deliver.
Getting to Gudauri
Travel to Gudauri from the Georgian capital of Tbilisi (or its airport) is straightforward. The resort is around 2½hr drive north of Tbilisi (TBS) airport. For detailed information, see our Travel to Georgia page.
