Terrain

Gudauri offers an array of backcountry terrain that caters to skiers and snowboarders of various skill levels. Here’s a breakdown of the terrain you can explore.

  • The mountains around Gudauri are renowned for its vast alpine bowls, providing open and expansive areas for backcountry enthusiasts. These bowls offer opportunities for both powder-filled descents and wide-open turns.
  • Thrill-seekers will appreciate the steep chutes and couloirs that terrain near Gudauri has to offer. These challenging descents are ideal for advanced skiers and snowboarders looking for an adrenaline rush.
  • If you’re looking for solitude and untouched snow, venture into the region's remote zones. These areas require careful planning and are best explored with a knowledgeable guide.
  • Snow & Timing

Gudauri typically enjoys abundant snowfall, making it a backcountry skiing paradise. Gudauri experiences snowfall from December to the end of March, with an average annual snowfall of over 5 meters (16 feet). This consistent snowpack ensures excellent conditions for backcountry skiing throughout the season. From light, dry powder to spring corn snow, Gudauri offers a wide range of snow conditions to suit every skier’s preference.

The ideal time to plan your backcountry ski tour in Gudauri depends on your preferences and skill level. Mid-February to March often provides the best balance between abundant snowfall and milder temperatures. The sunnier days make for great backcountry adventures. As spring approaches, in late March to April you can still enjoy great skiing, especially in higher elevations, with the added bonus of longer daylight hours and that spring corn snow!

    Daily Program & Meeting Point

The full day program of exploring Gudauri's best backcountry terrain starts at 0930hr with a pick up from your accommodation and ends about 8 hours later with a drop off at 1730hr. Ski Ability & Customising Your Tour

This tour can be fully customised to meet any of your skiing (or snowboarding) needs and match your group’s ability, however a baseline ability to ski comfortable on intermediate slopes is required. If skiing off-piste freeride powder is not your strength, but you want to learn, the guide can slowly introduce you to it, providing advice & skills development whilst showing you the best ski areas the resort has to offer. All guides are qualified instructors that can easily spend some time on technical improvement if you wish. If you are more into ski-touring away from the ski lifts, the resort has an incredible range of areas to explore, and all are well-known to the guides! Just ask and the guides will try to deliver.
