Where is Sahoro?

Sahoro Resort is located in the southern part of Central Hokkaido, 167km east of Sapporo and 130km from the New Chitose Airport (Sapporo International Airport). Sahoro is 12km north of the town of Shintoku.

Flights

The New Chitose Airport (Sapporo Airport) is the most common gateway into Hokkaido. Flights to the Sapporo Airport originate from various airports around Japan (e.g. Narita and Haneda), as well as other Asian cities such as Seoul-Incheon (South Korea), Hong Kong, Taipei, Shanghai, Bangkok and Kuala-Lumpar. You can look at flight options here.

Flying into Obihiro is another option, which is 77km southeast of Sahoro. From Obihiro you can get a fixed rate taxi.

If doing a road trip around the Central Hokkaido ski areas, you could also fly into Asahikawa.

Bus from New Chitose Airport to Sahoro

If you're staying at the Club Med Sahoro you have the option of purchasing a transport package which includes flights and airport transfers.

For those staying at the Sahoro Resort Hotel, you can book the Sahoro Express, which runs between the New Chitose Airport and Sahoro. There are 3 to 4 schedules per day.

It's also possible to book a private transfer between the New Chitose Airport and Sahoro. Sky Station has different vehicle sizes to cater for 1 to 30 passengers.

Train from New Chitose Airport to Sahoro

From the New Chitose Airport, or from Sapporo City, there are very regular trains to get to Shintoku station (see Japan Travel Navitime for schedules and fares), and from there it's only a 15 minute drive to the resort. A free shuttle service connects Sahoro with the main trains that arrive from Minami Chitose (and depart from the Sahoro hotels to connect with trains departing Shintoku station). Make a reservation for shuttle between the station and Sahoro the day prior.

Tours to Sahoro

There are various Central Hokkaido multi-day tours that may include a day at Sahoro as part of the itinerary. These guided tours are either lift-access powder chasing tours or the trips include a degree of ski touring or splitboarding if dictated by the conditions.

Or there are day tours from Furano to Sahoro that include transport and guiding. These are guided tours for private groups ie you can’t join a mixed group.

Driving to Sahoro

DIY road trips around Central Hokkaido are becoming increasingly popular, and it's easy enough to self drive to Sahoro, particularly considering the recent advances in GPS technology that make navigating a breeze! Car rentals are readily available at the main Hokkaido airports, Sapporo, Furano, Asahikawa and Niseko. The phone number of Sahoro Resort for GPS navigation is 0156-64-7111.

Getting Around Sahoro

There are shuttle buses that run between the Sahoro Resort Hotel and the main base (gondola station) of the ski area during the day, every 30 to 60 minutes. Most people won't need to use this bus because both hotels are pretty much ski-in ski-out. You'd only need to use the bus if you're staying at the Sahoro Resort Hotel and want to head up to the day lodge to get specific ski rentals, you're a first timer and are taking ski lessons (which start at the day lodge), or you're not skiing and want to meet friends for lunch at the cafeteria.
