Other options for lodging are to stay at nearby ski resorts such as Nozawa Onsen, Togari Onsen, Myoko or in the town of Yudanaka.
Or another option for Madarao accommodation is to stay around Lake Nojiri on the other side of Mt Madarao from Iiyama.
Nojiri Lake Resort offers an inexpensive shuttle service to Madarao, Tangram and the main Myoko ski resorts.
Madarao Accommodation
You can search for Madarao accommodation options here, and check availability and rates by entering your dates. There are lots of renovated Madarao lodges and inns with western owners and staff. These are great if you want the support of hosts where English is their first language, and to socialise with other foreigners in the lounge or bar. Some of these western lodges provide other services such as transport to restaurants in Iiyama or nearby ski areas.
The other option for Madarao lodging is to stay in a Japanese hotel or pension. Some of these are old-school and provide inexpensive accommodation and more of a Japanese experience.
Other Madarao accommodation includes a handful of self-contained apartments/houses.
Short Walk To Madarao Lifts
The Madarao village is somewhat spread out, and some of the Madarao lodgings are 1km+ away from the slopes of the Madarao Ski Resort. If you don't want to walk to and from the ski area, most of the pensions and lodges offer shuttles.
Ski-In/Ski-Out Accommodation Madarao
Madarao has various ski-in ski-out accommodation options, including a few hotels and various pensions and lodges. The most popular Madarao Kogen accommodation is the Madarao Kogen Hotel, which is the hub of the resort and village and is conveniently ski-in ski-out and located right near the kids’ play area and the beginners’ zone.
Other slopeside accommodation in Madarao is near the Madarao Kogen Hotel, or just a little down the hill.
Tangram Accommodation
The
Tangram Ski Resort is inter-connected with the Madarao Ski Resort. The base area primarily consists of the large ski-in ski-out Hotel Tangram. There are also a few other Tangram hotels and pensions near the base of the #6 chair lift. There is no village per se and no restaurants and shops beyond that found in the hotels.
