Where is Silk at Madarao?

Located in the southern part of the village, Hotel Silk in Madarao is only 150m walk to the slopes of the Madarao Ski Resort. It’s a 10 to 15 minute walk up to the main part of the village if you want to head out for dinner and drinks in the evening.

Rooms

Hotel Silk in Madarao has a variety of rooms. All guest rooms have a private bathroom.
  • Western/Japanese combo rooms – 2 single beds, tatami area for 2 futons - 20- 36sqm, up to 4 guests
  • Western twin rooms – 15sqm – sleeps 2
  • Western twin rooms with small tatami seating area – 18 sqm – sleeps 2

Delightfully Japanese

29/09/2023
We quite enjoyed our stay at the Silk. It was an old-school dated Japanese hotel and priced accordingly, especially considering we had a well sized room and it had a private bathroom. In amongst the sea of western lodges that have popped up in Madarao, it was refreshing to see that it’s still possible to find inexpensive Japanese accommodation, and it was sort of nice that we were the only foreigners in the hotel.

We visited on a holiday weekend and the Saturday night was really busy at the hotel. The one lift for the hotel was not adequate for the number of people, but luckily we love stairs. We attempted to visit the onsen yet it was packed and there was a queue to have a pre-wash. It seemed they’d also dosed the baths with chlorine considering the crowds, so we didn’t bother having an onsen. Other than the Saturday night, the place was almost deserted.

The location is nice and close to the slopes, however if you want to go out to a restaurant at night rather than having dinner at the hotel, it’s a decent walk uphill to get to the main part of the hotel.

Breakfast was reasonable, and in line with our expectations considering the price.
