Madarao Elm Pension
Pension Elm in Madarao has very friendly hosts and provides basic pension accommodation for those on a budget. Rooms have western style beds, bathrooms are communal, breakfast and dinner are available, and the whole pension is non-smoking.
Where is Pension Elm Madarao?
Madarao Elm Pension is located in the lower village of Madarao, about 1km from the slopes of
Madarao Ski Resort and the Madarao Kogen Hotel. Shuttles to/from the ski slopes are provided by the pension hosts. A shuttle to a nearby onsen can also be provided.

It's about 800m walk to a main group of restaurants/bars. Occasionally the hosts can provide transport in the evenings to/from restaurants, but only if they are not cooking meals.
And don't forget there is also a daily shuttle service that operates between Madarao and Nozawa Onsen and also Myoko Kogen so you can potentially go and explore other resorts nearby; plus Madarao inter-connects with Tangram ski area and a very inexpensive ticket upgrade is available to access both resorts on the one pass.
Pension Rooms
Elm Pension has 10 western-style rooms (single, twin and triple) with a maximum capacity of 35 guests. Each room has a small seating area and wifi is available in the rooms.
All rooms use shared bathroom facilities with Japanese style bath houses for each gender.

Dining
The pension has a small and charming European style dining room. A daily breakfast can be provided that is mostly western style such as cooked eggs, ham, salad, toast, fruit with yoghurt and tea and coffee.
Dinner can be provided in-house featuring local produce such as hot pot. The cuisine is mostly Japanese style with some western dishes.
You have the option of including just breakfast or breakfast and dinner (half-board).
