Monaile Madarao

Monaile Hotel Madarao

The Monaile Hotel offers very good value for money accommodation at the Madarao Ski Resort.

The Monaile Hotel is partnered with the Madarao Kogen Hotel. Check-in often occurs at the Madarao Kogen Hotel, and the concierge services and other amenities of the flagship hotel can be accessed by Monaile guests.

Where is the Monaile Hotel?

The Monaile Hotel is located in the Madarao village about an 8 minute walk or quick shuttle bus down from the Madarao Kogen Hotel, the central hub of Madarao Kogen. The shuttle between the two hotels operates on-demand and you can call the shuttle at the reception of either of the hotels.

Monaile is almost ski-in ski-out via a beginner trail. A half minute skate or walk from the hotel drops you down onto a trail that leads to the main base area of Madarao Mountain Resort. To get back to the hotel, you can ski along with the Utopia run (which is so mellow it’s almost flat!) and then it’s just a 1-2 minute walk up to the hotel.

Hotel Rooms

Monaile has 50 hotel rooms that are all very generously sized.

Western Twin Room: two large single beds and two extra sofa beds – 1-4 guests (but ideal for 2 guests)

Combination Room: two large single beds and two futon beds on the tatami (ie combination western and Japanese beds) - 1-4 guests

Maisonette Room: large room - 6-11 guests

All rooms have a private bathroom and many offer gorgeous views up to the mountain. The rooms are equipped with a fridge, flat screen TV, seating area, kettle and green tea set. Toiletries and yukata robes are included.

Facilities

One or two staff might speak English, and you have the full services of the English speaking concierge staff at the Madarao Kogen Hotel.

Monailes has the following facilities:

- ski and snowboard storage
- indoor onsen with a nearby lounge area
- sauna
- small gift shop
- the all important vending machines!

Dining

The on-site restaurant offers a simple buffet breakfast that includes a combination of Japanese and western fare. For dinner the restaurant also offers a buffet meal with both Japanese and western items. Accommodation packages can include just breakfast, or you can get dinner included as well.

If you want a more grandiose buffet dinner (or breakfast) or upscale Japanese set menu restaurant, you can head up to the Madarao Kogen Hotel. There are also a few other Madarao dining options around the Madarao village, or you can head down to the town of Iiyama.

Great Value for Massive Rooms

07/04/2014
One of outstanding features of this hotel is the massive size of the rooms. Japan hotels are renowned for having tiny rooms, but the Monaile Hotel blows this stereotype right out of the water. The option of being able to sleep on a western or Japanese bed is also a plus.

The rates are also outstanding. With the exception of peak times such as Xmas to New Years, the prices for the hotel are ridiculously inexpensive, especially considering the quality of the rooms.

The location provides good access to the ski resort, but for families with small children, you’ll probably find the location up at the Madarao Kogen Hotel more convenient for the proximity to child care, ski school and other kids’ amenities.

The staff at the hotel were sooooo friendly, and the ability to easily head up to the Madarao Kogen for dinner or to use the concierge services was also great. You might also need to head up to the flagship hotel to access the internet as there didn’t seem to be any at the Monaile when we visited.

The meals at the hotel were simple yet very effective, but I’d suggest not getting dinner included in your package so you can vary up your evening meal options.

Another plus of this hotel was the indoor onsen – a great way to finish a day of skiing or snowboarding!
