Where is Ryuoo Ski Park?

Ryuoo Ski Resort is located on the slopes of Mt Ryuo in the Yamanouchi region, about 37km northeast of Nagano in the northern part of the Nagano Prefecture. It’s about 10km from the town of Yudanaka (a 20 minute drive). 

Train and Bus To Ryuo

There are buses to Ryuoo from the Iiyama train station. See Japan Travel Navitime for schedules and routes to get to Iiyama on the bullet train. A reservation is required for the shuttle bus to Ryuoo.

Or if you’re coming in from Osaka/Kansai you can get trains to Nagano then Yudanaka, and there are 7 buses to Ryuoo each day from the Yudanaka train station which take about 30 minutes. These buses are handy if you’re using Yudanaka as a base to visit various ski areas.

Driving to Ryuoo Ski Park

Driving is the easiest way to get there and it also provides flexibility to visit the many other ski resorts in the region.

The last part of the drive is windy and a little hilly, and snow tyres with 4WD are required.

Other Ski Resorts Nearby

Other ski resorts nearby include X-Jam Takaifuji, Yamabiko, Yomase Onsen, and Kijimadaira. On weekends there are buses between Ryuo and X Jam Takaifuji, Yomase Onsen and Yudanaka.

There are also buses to Komaruyama. The smaller and more mellow Kita Shiga Komaruyama sits next to Ryuoo, and there are trails near the base that connect the two ski areas.

Major nearby ski resorts include Shiga Kogen and Nozawa Onsen (23km to the north).
