Tazawako Lodging

The Tazawako ski resort doesn’t have a village at the base area but there are some lodgings nearby. Tazawako accommodation options range from deluxe hotels with beautiful onsens to pensions that are so rustic that you might not want to let your dog sleep there! Many of the Tazawako hotels offer half-board, which can be useful considering there are not a lot of evening dining options in the area.

Tazawako Hotels Near Ski Area

The Tazawako Ski Resort is located in the Mizusawa Onsen area. There is no ski-in ski-out accommodation at Tazawako, but there are a handful of options near the base of the ski area that are just a few minutes drive to the resort.

Lake Tazawa Hotels 

The Tazawako Lakeside Resort & Onsen is our recommendation for this area and probably the best option for value and location for Tazawako. It is located between the lake and the ski resort.

Tazawako Kogen Accommodation

Up the road from the Tazawako ski area by about 4km is Tazawako Kogen Village (Tazawako Plateau Hot Spring Resort) that sits at the base of a former ski resort. Tazawako Kogen has a few hotels as well as Alpa Komakusa that houses an onsen complex and the Akita Komagatake Information Center. This is the trail head for hiking the peaks in summer or backcountry touring in winter.

Further up the road is the Nyuto Onsen area (about 7km away), which has several ryokans with their own hot springs.

Morioka Hotels

Or if you plan to sample various resorts in the area and have your own transport, you could stay in one of the Morioka hotels and enjoy the culture of a Japanese city.
