Cardrona Lodging

Options for Cardrona accommodation include (very limited) on-mountain apartments, Cardrona Village lodging, Wanaka accommodation, or Queenstown accommodation.

Cardrona Accommodation - On-Mountain

Cardrona ski resort is a rarity amongst commercial New Zealand ski resorts in that it has on-mountain accommodation. Located in the base building, only a minute’s walk from the lifts are apartments with varying bedroom configurations. Considering the convenience of this on-snow accommodation and the limited number of units, this accom is booked out very early.

These units are all self-contained. There is no grocery store on mountain, and one of the cafes is only open occasionally in the evenings, so those staying in these apartments will need to BYO supplies. This Cardrona accommodation is generally suited to families who can make their own nightlife, as driving down the access road at night time to the Cardrona village or to Wanaka is not recommended.

Cardrona Village Accommodation (20 mins drive)

On the Crown Range Road at the base of the mountain is the Cardrona Village, which is reminiscent of the days of the gold rush in the 1860s. The village of Cardrona is developing, but currently there isn’t much there except for accommodation, the hotel, a distillery, a general store, and antiques store. The centrepiece of the village is the historical Cardrona Hotel which is popular as an après ski pub. Sometimes there are just a few skiers relaxing by the large open fires, and at other times the place is hopping. The establishment also has a lovely restaurant as well as quality hotel rooms.

Wanaka Accommodation (35 mins drive)

Many Cardrona skiers and snowboarders choose to stay in Wanaka due to its proximity, the café scene, and modest nightlife and shopping opportunities. It is a very easy drive from Wanaka to Cardrona Village before taking the mountain road up to Cardrona ski resort. Regular shuttle bus services are also available from Wanaka to Cardrona.

Queenstown Accommodation (60 mins drive)

Queenstown is the most popular base location as it has the largest number of hotels, restaurants, bars and shops to choose from plus hundreds of non-skiing activities. Access to Cardrona from Queenstown can be via shuttle bus or self-drive.

Arrowtown Accommodation (45 mins drive)

Arrowtown is a small village centrally located between Cardrona, Coronet Peak and the Remarkables. Whilst it is not as popular as Queenstown or Wanaka, Arrowtown has some lovely lodging options including up-market BnBs and a large golf and spa resort just outside of town. The village also has some nice restaurants, bars and shopping.
