The Hermitage Hotel provides a very high standard of accommodation and very attentive service.

We stayed in a premium room that was huge, and the picture windows that provided views of Aoraki Mt Cook and the surrounding areas were fabulous. The décor was very stylish, the room facilities were very good, and the beds were soooo comfortable. In combination with nice bed linen, dark curtains and quietness, the sleeps we had at the Hermitage Hotel were absolutely dreamy (literally!).

Other highlights of the hotel include the views from the restaurants, café, and bar. Happy hour in the bar is also a highlight, not just because of the half price cocktails, but also because of the Mt Cook alpenglow. However surprisingly for an upscale hotel, the quality and range of wines on offer was a little disappointing. They didn’t showcase what the NZ wine industry has to offer. Luckily there were nice cocktails!

Also the hotel has surprisingly few facilities for a luxury hotel. There is no gymnasium, no pool and no day spa. But hey when there are mountains outside to climb or ski, who needs to go to the gym or for a swim?!

All in all, the Hermitage is the place to stay at Mt Cook.
