The Roundhill ski field facilities and services are not extensive, but they are more than adequate for the basics. Most of the facilities and services are housed within a few buildings near the car park. The buildings have had a facelift with new corrugated tin on the facades, which looks pretty funky.
Eating On Mountain
Roundhill has a refurbished café that overlooks the lake and the beginners’ area. The retro furniture is pretty hip and the café has a nice sun deck. The café sells toasted sandwiches, soup, coffee and various snacks and beverages. The café is licensed too.
You can also BYO food and cook it on one of the outdoor BBQs. Bringing a chilly bin to Roundhill seems to be all the rage!
The best spot for an après drink is at the Von Brown Hut, which is part way down the ski field. This little rustic old hut is warm and cosy inside for cold days, and it’s fabulous on sunny days to sit outside and gaze across the lake. The hut sells wine, beers, and shots, including some fabulous schnapps that’s like rocket fuel!
Roundhill Ski School and Snowboard School
The cleverly named Benzeenees Snowsports School provides very inexpensive ski and snowboard lessons. One and a half hour group lessons run three times a day and private lessons are also available.
Roundhill Ski Hire & Equipment Rental
Roundhill has a good range of quality ski and snowboard rental equipment on offer at very reasonable prices. Other than helmets, they don’t have any snow clothing for hire. If you need ski clothing, try the post office in Lake Tekapo.
For those wanting to ride the rope tow, they rent out harnesses with an affixed nutcracker. These are really high quality relative to some of the dreadful nutcracker belts that are hired or loaned out at the club fields.
Facilities for Children
Roundhill doesn’t have any childcare available. For kiddies too small to have ski lessons, an option is tobogganing. BYO toboggan or hire one at Roundhill.
Shopping
If you want to boast about your visit to Roundhill, the cafe sells a few souvenirs such as t-shirts and caps. A few sundries and basic ski accessories such as gloves and goggles are also for sale.
