Kamui Mintara Backcountry Tour
The Kamui Mintara Backcountry Tour from
Rising Sun Guides is ideal for backcountry skiers and split boarders who want to get to higher alpine objectives.
Hokkaido`s indigenous Ainu people referred to the Daisetsuzan mountain range as Kamui Mintara – The Playground of the Gods. This backcountry trip starts on the doorstep of the Daisetsuzan`s before heading to the East side of the range.
The Eastern slopes are sheltered from Hokkaido`s prevailing Westerly flow which means more stable weather days, well suited to backcountry skiing and a greater likelihood of reaching high alpine zones.
This trip completes a nice loop around Japan`s largest national park stopping in at traditional ryokans with lots of options for fantastic backcountry skiing.
Please note that the Kurodake ropeway is closed for most of January however there are many other backcountry touring areas that remain accessible regardless of lift operations.
