Inter Island Explorer Tour Overview
The Inter Island Explorer Tour is the big one! After years of planning and finding the best areas and snow that Japan has to offer,
Whiteroom Tours can now bring you a tour of epic proportions. This Japan ski and snowboard tour takes in two islands and links Central Hokkaido to the main island of Honshu to Tohoku, a powder mecca! The Inter Island Explorer Tour is designed for skiers and snowboarders who want a true adventure.
Central Hokkaido has been famed for providing a truly Japanese experience away from the Western crowds that are now exploring other parts of Japan. With over 10 years experience operating in the region, WhiteRoom Tours have the area well and truly mapped out and know where to go to find the goods on any given day.
This 13 night adventure will see you spend 5 nights in
Furano at the beautiful Rising Sun B&B. With 4-5 days on snow you’ll have opportunity of skiing or riding on Hokkaido’s highest peak
Asahidake as well as exploring the backcountry of Furano,
Kamui,
Tomamu,
Sahoro and
Pippu.
From Furano you’ll transfer to the powder capital of Hokkaido,
Otaru for two nights and two days of the deepest snow of your lives at
Kiroro,
Kokusai or
Teine. Staying in Otaru city you’ll explore the old European canals, enjoy a local brew or whiskey, and eat some of the freshest sashimi in all of Hokkaido.
You’ll head down to Hakodate in southern Hokkaido to explore the seafood markets and quaint European style Japanese town before jumping on a ferry across the Tsugaru Strait to Aomori, the northernmost city of the main island of Honshu.
This untapped region is renowned for a mix of the new and old world and loads of untracked powder! Your first 2 nights will be on mountain at
Hakkoda in a beautiful onsen hotel. Known for big snow, snow monsters and expansive backcountry,
Hakkoda is a once in a lifetime ski experience.
You’ll then transfer for your last 4 nights in the lively city of Morioka. Each day you’ll head out to any of the resorts in this
Iwate region including:
Appi;
Shizukuishi;
Hachimantai;
Tazawako; and
Geto Kogen. At night your guides will take you out for delicious local food and the vibrant nightlife of Morioka.
The guides in Hokkaido and Tohoku have lived and breathed these areas over the years exploring what they have to offer in anticipation of this epic inter-island tour. This road trip is one for the books and will offer everything a powder hunter will want out of a trip to Japan.

Ability Level
The required ability level is advanced and expert (in powder). You must be able to ski or ride the whole mountain with confidence and at a reasonable speed in powder, through trees and in variable conditions. You must have a good level of fitness. Snowboarders in this level are able to keep speed in flat sections by planning ahead as well as hold a solid traverse line and be able to hop up and manoeuvre in a way as to not slow down the group. Groups are split up into ski/board/ability levels and some groups we will be doing some hiking (traversing/bootpacking) to get to the goods. Skins or split-boards are not required but if the group has touring gear or wants to hire gear, the guides will happily take you deeper into the backcountry.
