Resort Powder Discovery - Niseko & Surrounding Areas

Discover the powder at Niseko and nearby ski resorts. Hunt out new zones and fresh tracks with the expert instructors who know exactly where to find the best hidden powder stashes within the resort boundaries for your group. The Niseko Resort Powder Discovery is a great option for groups new to Hokkaido powder and it's family friendly and suitable for 10 years+.

Highlights

  • Explore further afield: Visit great nearby resorts such as Rusutsu, Kiroro, or Moiwa or stay at Niseko
  • Expert guidance: Instructors intimately familiar with each resort’s terrain and powder zones
  • Off-piste exploration: Discover the joy of untracked snow within resort boundaries
  • Technique improvement: Refine your skills with tailored instruction from experienced professionals
  • Convenience: No need to carry or wear avalanche safety equipment
  • Transport: Pick up and drop off service to your accommodation as part of the day, and you’ll ride in comfort in modern AWD vehicles
This program operates within resort boundaries strictly in areas where avalanche safety equipment is not required.

These tours are for PRIVATE GROUPS of up to 4 guests only i.e. you cannot join a group.

Ability Level & Age Requirements

The minimum age for participation is 10 and all guests need to meet the minimum ability requirements (intermediate+ off-piste).

Advanced bookings are essential because these Niseko resort tours book out well ahead of time. You can make a booking request to check about availability for your preferred dates.

Niseko is a huge ski area....

..there are secret stashes galore..

...and powder aplenty!!!!

Details

Transport:

  • Expect an accommodation pick-up at a time that suits (leaving around 8am is ideal to maximise time on snow), and drop-off at 4-5pm.
  • If you booked a certain ski resort and the lifts are shut that day, another resort will be offered. If all available resort options are closed WRTs will try to reschedule another day (if available), or offer you a full refund.

When booking this service you are getting:

  • Your own qualified and experienced instructor. This means you can have one person or up to four in the group. The fee remains the same so the more people you have the cheaper per person it becomes.
  • Niseko area accommodation pick-up and drop-off and transportation to the ski area. Usually you will have private transportation, but if there is another group heading to the same ski area that day you may need to share. The instructors don’t want to add any more carbon than necessary to the atmosphere.

Extra transportation charges

  • Pickup outside of the Niseko area requires approximately one hour extra travel – charged at 10,000 yen extra. For example picking up in Rusutsu and taking to Kiroro.

Other:

  • Mixing skiers and snowboarders – this can be done for Powder Discovery days, and you can request which type of instructor you wish to have. Please keep in mind your instructor will likely only be able to provide tips in their discipline – ski or board.
  • This is not sidecountry or backcountry guiding. You will stay within resort boundaries at all times, and no avalanche safety gear is required.
  • If your desire is to access terrain outside the resort boundaries into uncontrolled terrain (backcountry) you need to alternatively book a guided day with one of the professionally accredited guides. The ability requirement for backcountry guiding is "high intermediate" and above in powder and trees, and the minimum age is 15.
If you have any questions please feel free to make contact.

Other Destinations

These PRIVATE GROUP day tours can go to any of the following ski areas aside from Niseko...

Rusutsu is rated highly for its amazing tree skiing. When the conditions are right in Rusutsu (which is most of the time) you will experience face shot heaven. A visit to Rusutsu is an absolute must if you are going to Niseko.
Kiroro has become more popular with day trippers however they get a stack of fresh snow nearly every day covering up tracks ready for you to get into it up to your eyeballs. Kiroro is a little better suited to skiers than boarders as some of the ski-outs can be a bit flat.
Moiwa is almost an extension of Niseko and there is still fresh POW to be found if you know where to look. If you choose not to do any other tours whilst in Niseko you must at least get to Moiwa so you can say you have skied all of Niseko.

Whiteroom Tours Terms & Conditions

If you booked a certain ski resort and the lifts are shut that day we will offer up another resort. If all available resort options are closed we will try to reschedule another day (if available), or offer you a full refund.

Please note that Guide bookings are NOT CONFIRMED until a 20% deposit has been paid. Final balance is due 30 days prior to the start of your booking. You must complete our booking form and Registration/Waiver from before your guided day. Failure to do so will result in the cancelation of your booking. Guide Bookings Cancellation Policy Your 20% deposit is non-refundable unless we cancel the guided day due to unforeseen circumstances such as bad weather or guide injury. Whiteroom Guides will refund your full payment less the 20% deposit if notice is given 30 days prior to your booking date commencement. Whiteroom Guides will provide no refund for cancellations less than 7 days prior or a no show on your booked day. If Whiteroom Guides has to cancel your guided day due to adverse weather or other unforeseen circumstances you will be offered another date or a 100% refund.

Backcountry Safety Equipment Requirements

Backcountry safety equipment is compulsory for all participants on any guided day. All of the necessary equipment (transceiver, shovel, probe and backpack) is available to hire. Please advise us if you need this equipment when booking. You may also bring your own gear to use. If your Backcountry trip requires Alpine Touring equipment, split boards or snowshoes we will advise & recommend where the equipment can be rented from if you do not already have your own.

Pre Purchasing Lift Tickets

For day trips we recommend against purchasing lift tickets in advance, as there are no additional cost savings. Pre-purchasing lift tickets may only serve to limit your flexibility. Due to localized weather patterns, conditions can often be much different at nearby resorts & may influence the final destination decision.

Extra transportation charges

Greater Furano or Niseko area (outside of Hirafu and immediate surrounds and outside of Furano and immediate surrounds) requiring approximately one hour extra travel – client pays ¥10,000 extra. For example picking up in Rusutsu and taking to Kiroro. For Asahikawa pick-ups then on to Asahidake or Kamui/Pipu it is 2 hrs extra travel on top of 3hrs regular driving to Asahidake. 5hrs of driving plus guiding = a very long day. If clients are staying in Asahikawa clients they will be charged and extra ¥10,000 and must also pay for the guides accommodation either before or after the guided day.
