Sea Of Snow Tour

Ski the driest & deepest snow Japan has to offer on this incredible 7 day adventure to Central Hokkaido. The Sea of Snow is predominantly a lift-assisted powder chasing tour, so the majority of the time you'll be using the lifts to access the goods plus some short tours if the conditions dictate that this is required to get to the fluffy stuff. The tour will also include a full day of backcountry ski touring/splitboarding.

Your home base will be Kamifurano, staying at a private house. Kamifurano is centrally located to where all of the deep white goodness resides in Hokkaido.

Whilst this trip aims to hit up the best conditions each day, the key destinations will be the epic sidecountry of Furano and other ski areas where fresh powder tree runs are limitless, Asahidake which is Hokkaido's highest mountain, and Tokachidake which is known for its super deep snow and amazing onsen.

This will be one of the most memorable trips of your life, with its combination of snow, culture and food.
If you have any questions or want to double check about availability, please get in touch.

Group

This is a mixed group tour, so solos, duos or small groups are welcome to join.

Ability

This tour requires good riding skills (advanced & above) on all types of slopes, as well as some previous backcountry experience. Good cardio fitness is one of the most important things to be able to enjoy the tour. The guides running the trip will adjust the level at the client's desire and skills ability.

Safety

Safety in the backcountry is the first priority. To ensure you have a safe day on the mountain, Yukiumi's team will constantly monitor the forecast, the snow stability and the mountain conditions and will choose appropriate terrain on the day that is safe and that suits the group's ability. During dinner, the recommended choices would be offered and discussed with the group, and in the morning a final decision would be made taking the weather into consideration.

Equipment

You will require touring gear, touring skis, splitboard or snowshoes. As you will be skiing/riding deep snow, for skis it is recommended to have wide (min 100cm under foot) and for snowboarders it is recommend to be on a splitboard. It is also mandatory that you have avalanche safety equipment comprising of beacon, shovel, probe & backpack. Rental equipment can be arranged by Yukiumi with advance notice; please ask for details and a quote when you enquire.

  • Wake up early and have a good breakfast whilst reviewing the day's options.
  • Your guide will drive you to the ski area or trailhead

  • Your guide will take you to an onsen on the way back to the lodge - there's nothing better than the Japanese hot springs to recover the tired body and enjoy this Japanese cultural experience
