Ketchum Hotels
Ketchum is an old western town that doesn’t feel resortified, yet it’s definitely been gentrified. Some of the Ketchum hotels are rather deluxe and there are also very affordable Sun Valley hotel options. For those without a car, proximity to one of the bus stops for access to the ski resort is a huge bonus.
Pros: lovely genuine ski town vibe; good range of restaurants, bars and shops; closer to Bald Mountain than Sun Valley Resort Village; lodging for a wider range of budgets.
Sun Valley Hotels & Lodging
Most of the Sun Valley hotels and lodging are located in the town of Ketchum or in the Sun Valley Resort Village. Both require a shuttle bus to get to the slopes of Bald Mountain or Dollar Mountain of the Sun Valley Ski Resort. There is no ski-in ski-out Sun Valley lodging for Bald Mountain (the main part of the ski resort) and the closest lodging to the main base (River Run) of Bald Mountain is 0.6 miles from the slopes. Sun Valley
The Sun Valley Resort Village offers the quintessential Sun Valley vacation. The pedestrian village is very pretty and has European style buildings with various shops, a few dining options, and ice skating rinks. Sun Valley Resort lodging features The Lodge, which is the epitome of luxury Sun Valley hotels. A slight step down is the Sun Valley Inn which also offers very deluxe lodging. The resort also has a range of quality self-contained accommodations.
The Sun Valley Resort Village is about 2.5 miles from the main base of Bald Mountain (the main part of the Sun Valley Ski Resort) and 0.7 miles from the base of Dollar Mountain (the beginners ski area). Both ski areas are connected via free regular buses from the Sun Valley village. The village is 1.3 miles northeast of downtown Ketchum, and Lodge and Inn guests can utilise the driver service in the evening to get in and out of town.
Pros: gorgeous village; deluxe accommodations; various kids’ activities; lovely hot pools; day spa; and child care.
Cons: further from the ski resort compared to Ketchum; not many dining options.
