Sioux Lodge

Sioux Lodge

The renovated units of Sioux Lodge at the Grand Targhee Resort are semi self contained and come in a range of configurations from studios to two bedroom units. You’ll sleep soundly knowing that you won’t have to compete with too many people on the hill for the freshies in the morning.

Where is the Sioux Lodge?

The Sioux Lodge is located at the Grand Targhee ski resort in a very convenient location. The lodge is literally ski-in and can be ski-out if you’re heading down to the Shoshone Lift. The ticket office, shops and restaurants are within 100ft of your door. Fantastic!

Grand Targhee ski resort is on the western side of the Grand Teton range, just (literally) on the Wyoming side of the border with Idaho. The nearest town is Driggs and the gateway cities are Idaho Falls in Idaho and Jackson in Wyoming. Grand Targhee offers shuttles from the airports at Jackson and Idaho Falls.

Jackson Hole is 1:20 hours away over Teton Pass near the town of Jackson. Jackson Hole is the big daddy, while on the doorstep of Jackson, the small Snow King is a small, fun and cheap alternative.

Rooms

The rooms at Sioux Lodge are tastefully decorated and come in three different types – studio, one bedroom loft and 2 bedroom units. The studio sleeps up to 4 people in a queen bed and a bunk located in an alcove. The lofts sleep up to 4 people with the queen bed in an open upstairs loft and the bunk in an alcove in the main living area. The 2 bedroom units sleep up to 8 people.

The two bedroom units feature:
  • Spacious lounge / dining area;
  • Private balcony
  • Flat screen TV and games console;
  • Bedroom one - queen bed;
  • Bedroom two - two sets of bunks (suitable for four children or young adults);
  • Murphy double bed in the lounge area (the classic pull down from the wall variety!);
  • Full dining table;
  • Kitchenette with microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker;
  • One full bathroom downstairs, plus one toilet/wash basin upstairs;
  • Free WiFi internet access.
The lounge areas of the 2 bedroom units are sparsely furnished but are comfortable for stays of a few nights.

Facilities/Services

  • Facilities and services at the Sioux Lodge are many. They include:
  • Outdoor hot tub and heated swimming pool;
  • Sauna;
  • Exercise room;
  • Laundry facilities;
  • Free self-parking directly in front of the lodge;
  • Lifts, shops, restaurants and ticket office 100 feet away;
  • Ski locker (with lock and key) outside the front door.

Dining

Several dining options are available a few steps from the lodge in the main plaza at either the Trap Bar, Snorkel’s Deli & Coffee House, Wild Bill’s Grille, and The Branding Iron Grill.

For breakfast Snorkel’s is the place to go, and it also does reasonable sandwiches for lunch. The Branding Iron serves up first rate dinners.

At the Trap Bar, the Powderhounds had one of the best burgers served to them in the US. It came with bacon and bleu cheese – mmmmm, bleu cheese........ A great range of brews are on tap. Also, get a dose of the unique waffle chips during après. Live music plays most afternoons.

A Great Stay

18/02/2011
Location, location, location. You’ll be first on the slopes every day and can lager up in the arvo to your heart’s content. With only a handful of beds on the hill, you’ll feel like Grand Targhee is your own private ski resort.

We really enjoyed our stay at Sioux Lodge, not just for the convenient location, but also for the condo space and the hot tub and pool.

For the penny pinchers amongst us, self catering was a little difficult. The kitchenette was very basic and had no sink, cutlery, crockery, pots or pans. Doing a simple breakfast or lunch could have been a definite possibility but we just decided to eat out.
