Kiroro Ski Resort Facilities & Services
Kiroro is very well set up with regards to facilities and services. As
Kiroro is a resort in its truest sense, most of the amenities and shops are owned by the resort, so the choice for facilities such as ski rentals is limited to that provided by the resort.
Most of the facilities are contained within the Mountain Center, which is located at the main base of the Kiroro Ski Resort next door to the Club Med Kiroro Peak.
Facilities for Children
Kiroro is incredibly child friendly if you have a healthy budget for your ski trip. Overall Kiroro is very child friendly considering the ski-in ski-out accommodation, the group lessons, and the abundant activities for young children (see
Kiroro activities). If the Kiroro childcare was more broadly available, we’d give Kiroro 5/5 for family friendliness.
Child care is no longer offered at Kiroro unless you are staying at Kiroro Grand Club Med, which offers kids lessons and child care for ages 4 and up at part of the all-inclusive package. Child care for ages 2 & 3 is also offered for an additional charge.
Kiroro Ski School
If you’re staying at either of the Club Med properties, group lessons are included as part of the package, or private lessons can be booked at an additional cost. Group lessons are available from ages 4 and up.
Kiroro Kids Academy provides kids group lessons in English. Skiing lessons are for ages 3 to 12 and snowboard lessons are for ages 7 to 12. Lessons are either full day or half day (morning or afternoon). Pre-booking is highly advisable.
Kiroro Ski and Snowboard Academy provides private lessons in English in a 2 hour or 4 hour format.
Kiroro Ski Rentals & Snowboard Hire
The Kiroro ski and snowboard rental shop is situated inside the Mountain Center. The prices are not particularly cheap, probably due to the absence of any competition, but the quality of the equipment is very good. The rental shop stocks mostly beginner equipment and some performance snowboards and skis, including some really big planks (fat skis), which may be required considering the frequent deep powder at Kiroro. The shop also has a good range of ski and snowboard clothing and accessories (gloves, goggles and cap) for sale.
The Club Med properties also have ski and snowboard rentals, which are not included in the package.
Eating On Mountain
For those not partaking in the all-inclusive meals at Club Med, there are various options for lunch and snacks on-mountain.
Cafeteria Lumiere is a very smart looking café (open 10am to 3pm) which copes surprisingly well with the sometime crowds. The only problem with the cafeteria is that there are too many tempting cake sets and other naughties!
If you want exclusivity, guaranteed seats and slope views, and have plenty of coin, you can pay a lot of yen to go to The Lounge in Lumiere. Here you can get soups and salad.
Also inside the Mountain Center is a café that serves up brews and cakes. Other options in the Mountain Center include a pizza place and waffle stand.
At the top of the Nagamine no. 1 course is the quaint Crest café.
Brasserie Akaigawa is located on the 1st floor of the gondola station. The restaurant offers a range of fare.
Banking Facilities
Kiroro doesn’t have an ATM so get cashed up with yen before you arrive. Thankfully most parts of the resort accept credit cards (especially platinum credit cards!), so you might only need a small amount of cash for incidentals.
Kiroro Ski and Snowboard Shopping
The main Kiroro ski and snowboard shop is the Vainqueur Ski Shop in the Mountain Center. This is a pretty good store that stocks some high end gear as well as more affordable brands. Outerwear brands include SOS and Peak Performance, and they have a huge range of ski and snowboard accessories such as POC helmets and goggles. Unlike many Japanese ski resorts, Kiroro also sells hardwear and the shop has a decent range of skis, snowboards, boots and bindings.
