Where to Stay at Andermatt Sedrun Ski Resort
With a ski resort based on two separate valleys & highly efficient ski lift & train transport links, Andermatt Sedrun has a great range of accommodation available. Rapid development associated with the ski resort's more recent massive lift & terrain expansion is providing numerous new, high-quality modern hotel & apartment options in Andermatt & Disentis, that complement the wonderful range of original lodgings. The presence of the train line from Disentis through to Hospental, and the trunk line from Goeschenen to Andermatt, adds to flexibility when choosing where to stay.
When skiing this extensive resort, the options are predominantly in the valley villages. There are very few on-mountain lodgings. In order of preference of where to stay:
- Andermatt - best range of lodgings, services & access to ski lifts/terrain.
- Sedrun - traditional village with lovely, affordable hotels, good services & access to ski lifts/train.
- Oberalppass - a single traditional Swiss Alps guesthouse option with direct access to ski lifts & train.
- Disentis - ski-in resort accom, great services & access to ski lifts/terrain/train.
- Dieni - Quiet after hours but has super access to ski lifts/terrain/train.
- Goeschenen - Quiet after hours but has affordable lodgings & speedy/regular connection to Andermatt via train.
- Hospental - Small hamlet, quiet after hours, good access to Andermatt via train/bus & return off-piste slopes from Gemsstock.
Best Village Accommodation in Andermatt-Sedrun Ski Resort
Andermatt
Andermatt is a wonderful and compact traditional village. In addition to the many authentic hotels and guesthouses, Andermatt has an increasing number of new, modern high-end hotels & apartments available for holiday rental. The Chedi Andermatt best epitomises where Andermatt is heading, however don’t be put off by its 5-star rating: Andermatt has accommodation available for all budgets.
A slight caveat on staying in Andermatt is that in the depths of mid-winter, the town centre does not see the sun until the late afternoon & it can get as cold as the coldest ski resorts in the Alps. Immediately in the vicinity of the lifts at Acletta/S.Catrina are the new Catrina Resort Hotel Apartments & Catrina Hostel. Both are part of the same complex, are ski-in & only a few steps from the cable car base. A conveniently situated Coop supermarket makes self-catering in the apartments a breeze, but there is also an on-site bar & restaurant. Several apartments are available for rent a short distance further up the hill in the village proper. Lower down near the novice ski-school zone is the cosy, friendly Catrina Lodge (also ski-in). On the main road is the Hotel Pazzola (ski-in from the valley trail) & toward Disentis township the classic Nangijala Hostel (which isn’t really a hostel at all it just has shared bathrooms!), both within a few hundred metres of the cable car base!
In Disentis township itself, some lovely hotels are centrally located & provide a livelier alternative to being out near the ski lifts. Try the Hotel Alpsu & the good value Hotel La Furca. Both hotels are close to the Disentis/Mustér train station – a major terminus & connector to Chur & Zurich.

Other places to Stay
Beyond the canton of Uri to the west is the Valais (Wallis) & the lengthy Rhone River valley. The many small villages from Gletsch all the way along the valley (& associated incredible cross-country ski trails) to Fiesch are possibilities. It is conceivable to do day trips to Andermatt by train from as far away as Fiesch or even the transport hub of Brig but be prepared for an exceptionally long day! Better to stay closer & fully enjoy all that Andermatt & Sedrun have to offer.
