Steamboat Ski Resort Facilities & Services
Steamboat ski resort has one base area. The majority of the ski resort amenities are housed in the Gondola building or nearby buildings in Gondola Square. The ski resort also has various lodges and eateries dotted across the mountain.
Steamboat Ski Rentals
The resort operated Steamboat Ski and Sport, has 5 different locations on-mountain. Or for the ultimate in convenience when renting ski or snowboard equipment, they also offer in-room delivery.
There are lots of other Steamboat ski rental shops, both on-mountain and in downtown Steamboat, as well as other companies that offer delivery services. Prices at these shops are generally much more competitive than those at Steamboat Ski and Sport.
Ski Haus (1457 Pine Grove Rd at the base of the hill) definitely has cheaper rates, and as the location is less convenient for most people, they also offer a shuttle service between your accommodation and the shop. They have a huge range of basic, performance and demo skis and snowboards, and also rent out snowshoes, alpine touring skis, split boards, skins, and other backcountry gear (except for avalanche safety gear).

Facilities for Children
The Kiddie Coral provides child care for ages 6 months to 6 years. It’s conveniently located in the Gondola building and they have three rooms for different age groups. The program runs for the full day (8am to 4pm) and includes lunch for children over 12 months. They also run half day programs depending on availability. The rates are somewhat pricey relative to other USA ski resorts.
The other alternative is to use one of the Steamboat babysitting services, and if you have two children this will be more economical.
Steamboat Springs Ski School
The Steamboat ski school offers a large range of ski and snowboard lessons. Private lessons are held in 3, 5 or 7 hour blocks. Group lessons are held for never-evers and other beginners in half day, full day or 3 day formats, whilst other group lessons are just full day or 3 day packages. These adult group lessons have a maximum of 7 per group.
The Steamboat ski school also has lots of specialty programs such as adaptive sports, telemarking, and park and pipe clinics.
Steamboat has a great kids’ ski school that operates out of the Kids Vacation Center (KVC) in the Gondola building. They run a variety of programs for children ages 2.5 and up, and for the little wee ones the ski lessons are combined with child care. And for extra peace of mind, they have GPS tracking on all the kids. Lunch is included with all the kids programs, so parents don’t have to pick the kids up until the end of the day.
Storage
Basket check is available at the top of the gondola with unlimited access to the basket each day. Lockers are located on the lower level of the Gondola building, whilst the Ski Corral provides overnight ski and snowboard storage. The Ski Corral is conveniently located opposite the gondola entrance and only steps from the slopes.
Eating On Mountain
The Steamboat ski resort has a few on-mountain dining facilities, ranging from basic cafeteria food to table service fine dining. Most dining on-mountain is rather expensive, but that doesn’t stop the crowds, so good luck trying to find a table on weekends.
The Four Points Lodge is a cozy cabin to have lunch, and the outdoor deck with its views is a highlight. They serve up chili, soups, hot dogs and coffee, and there are also amazing views from the hut.
Ragnar’s at Rendezvous Saddle is nice for an upscale lunch with a touch of Scandinavia. Hazie’s at the top of the gondola is also good for a spiffy lunch. At the other end of the spectrum is the Thunderhead Food Court or the Rendezvous food court, and the BBQ sundeck is lovely for fine days.
Otherwise it’s very easy to return to the base area for lunch. Gondola Joe’s offer simple lunch options and coffee. They also do some great burritos and burgers for breakfast.
