Bakhmaro
Having run its first season in 2016/17, it quickly came to terms with the massive volume of snow & superb terrain, establishing a multitude of fantastic routes with up to 800m skiable vertical from a top elevation of 2,755m. Most runs are below the high summits though, having between 300 to 500m vertical per run. The terrain includes tree skiing of a Japanese quality! Depending on the group, around 10 runs are completed per day (3,000 to 5,000m vertical/day).
The once rustic lodgings utilised when the operation started at Bakhmaro are now a thing of the past. Newly built hotel-style accommodations with super-comfortable twin & triple rooms (plus a few doubles), each with ensuite bathrooms and balconies are now available in 'The Pioneers' & 'Riders Lodge'. A large dining/lounge area plus a sauna makes for a positively palatial setting compared to the original lodgings. A more basic guesthouse accommodation option exists for private groups at a reduced tariff, but we can attest to their comfort and added authenticity. Despite its remote location, the sensational local food & drink has only gotten better over time and forms a major part of the whole experience.
Multiple snowcats run at Bakhmaro and places can fill very quickly during peak periods. See more information & booking for Bakhmaro Cat Skiing weeks here. There are usually dates for Women Only cat-ski tours, providing exclusive use of a snowcat to all female ski groups. Exclusive use of the sauna is also arranged. See more information & booking for Women's Week Catskiing here. In mid-March the focus in Bakhmaro is snowcat assisted ski touring & splitboarding. Two tour dates are offered in both December and March. See more information and booking for Bakhmaro Cat Ski & Tour Weeks here.
Adjara
From season 2019/20 a more remote cat ski operation was established in Adjara. Access is via Bakhmaro & guests are limited to 12. Accommodation is in a 'ski-out', rustic (but gorgeous) alpine hut called Wolfsbed, located at 2,400m elevation. The hut has been improved markedly over successive seasons, and is now perhaps beyond 'rustic' and into the realms of cosy & comfortable. Expert skiers & snowboarders with previous backcountry experience should check out Wolfsbed Hut Catskiing Weeks here.
In mid-March the focus at Wolfsbed Hut is snowcat assisted ski touring & splitboarding. Two tour dates are offered in March. See more information and booking for Wolfsbed Hut Catski & Tour Weeks here.
Project X
A new project fully established in season 22/23 is Project X. It has lived up to its promises of epic new terrain, never skied by humans, and a comfortable mountain lodge in a remote part of southwest Georgia. Come along and name your own run! See more info & availability for Project X.
